Ihre Aufgaben

Als Mitarbeiter*in für Exponatentwicklung und Kuratierung arbeiten Sie an der Schnittstelle von Inhalt, Gestaltung und Vermittlung. Sie tragen zur inhaltlichen Konzeption und Entwicklung von Exponaten bei – von der Recherche über die kuratorische Ausarbeitung bis zur Umsetzung in interaktiven, multimedialen oder räumlichen Formaten.

Ihre zentralen Aufgaben umfassen:

  • Mitentwicklung kuratorischer Konzepte für Ausstellungen und Einzel-Exponate

  • Inhaltliche Recherche, Strukturierung und Aufbereitung wissenschaftlicher Themen für unterschiedliche Zielgruppen

  • Entwicklung von Ideen für Exponate, Installationen und interaktive Vermittlungsformate

  • Produktion und Projektkoordination von Ausstellungsteilen oder Vermittlungsangeboten.

  • Organisation und Koordination von Arbeitsabläufen im Projektteam

  • Verfassen von Ausstellungstexten sowie Begleitung der textlichen und medialen Übersetzung wissenschaftlicher Inhalte

  • Mitarbeit in interdisziplinären Teams (Gestaltung, Szenografie, Medienproduktion, Wissenschaft, Technik)

  • Enge Abstimmung mit externen Kurator*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen und Gestalter*innen

  • Unterstützung bei der Vorbereitung und Durchführung von Vergabeprozessen

  • Mitarbeit bei Evaluation, Dokumentation und Qualitätssicherung

Ihr Profil

Sie sind ein kreativer Geist mit strukturierter Denkweise und einem ausgeprägten Gespür für verständliche und spannende Wissenschaftsvermittlung.

Was Sie mitbringen sollten:

  • Abgeschlossenes Studium

  • Ein tiefes Verständnis für wissenschaftliche Prozesse und Denkweisen

  • Berufserfahrung in kuratorischer Arbeit, Ausstellungskonzeption oder Wissenschaftskommunikation wünschenswert

  • Interesse an innovativer Vermittlung und Lust auf interaktive, medienbasierte oder szenografische Formate

  • Fähigkeit, komplexe Inhalte zielgruppenorientiert aufzubereiten

  • Gute Ausdrucksfähigkeit in Wort und Schrift sowie ein Gespür für Sprache und Narrative

  • Teamfähigkeit, Eigeninitiative und strukturierte Arbeitsweise

  • Freude an der Arbeit in einem multidisziplinären und dynamischen Umfeld im Aufbau

Science Communication Center

Mit dem Science Communication Center (SCC) entsteht im Herzen Wiens das größte Zentrum für moderne Wissenschaftsvermittlung in Österreich. Ab 2027 lädt das SCC auf rund 4.000 m² zu interaktiven Ausstellungen, Mitmachlaboren, Veranstaltungen und Dialogräumen ein – ein Ort, an dem Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft auf Augenhöhe in Austausch treten.

Ziel ist es, Begeisterung für Forschung zu wecken, wissenschaftliches Denken erlebbar zu machen und Vertrauen in wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zu fördern.

Das SCC ist ein gemeinsames Projekt der Universität Wien, der Technischen Universität Wien und der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Es entsteht in enger Kooperation mit dem Bundesministerium für Frauen, Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie dem Bundesministerium für Bildung. Im denkmalgeschützten Gebäude der Aula der Wissenschaften entsteht so ein lebendiger Ort der Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Forschungsthemen und zentralen Zukunftsfragen.

Besonderes Augenmerk gilt jungen Zielgruppen – vor allem Schüler*innen ab zehn Jahren und jungen Erwachsenen. Dabei versteht sich das SCC nicht als klassisches Museum, sondern als generationenübergreifende Plattform für Wissenschaftskommunikation mit hoher gesellschaftlicher Relevanz.

Your mission

As a Specialist for Exhibit Development and Curation, you will work at the intersection of content, design, and communication. You will contribute to the conceptual and content development of exhibits – from research and curatorial development to implementation in interactive, multimedia, or spatial formats.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Co-developing curatorial concepts for exhibitions and individual exhibits

  • Conducting research, structuring, and preparing scientific topics for diverse target audiences

  • Developing ideas for exhibits, installations, and interactive communication formats

  • Producing and coordinating exhibition components or educational offerings

  • Organizing and coordinating workflows within the project team

  • Writing exhibition texts and supporting the translation of scientific content into textual and media formats

  • Collaborating in interdisciplinary teams (design, scenography, media production, science, technology)

  • Liaising closely with external curators, scientists, and designers

  • Supporting the preparation and implementation of procurement processes

  • Assisting with evaluation, documentation, and quality assurance

Your profile

You are a creative mind with a structured way of thinking and a strong instinct for clear and engaging science communication.

What you should bring:

  • A completed university degree

  • A deep understanding of scientific processes and ways of thinking

  • Professional experience in curatorial work, exhibition design, or science communication is desirable

  • Interest in innovative communication approaches and enthusiasm for interactive, media-based, or scenographic formats

  • Ability to translate complex content for different target audiences

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a good sense for language and narrative

  • Team spirit, initiative, and a structured working style

  • Enjoyment in working within a multidisciplinary and evolving environment in the making

About us

Science Communication Center

Located in the heart of Vienna, the Science Communication Center (SCC) will become Austria’s largest hub for modern science communication. Starting in 2027, the SCC will offer approximately 4,000 m² of interactive exhibitions, hands-on labs, events, and spaces for dialogue between science and society — a place where exchange happens on equal footing.

The goal is to spark enthusiasm for research, make scientific thinking tangible, and foster trust in scientific knowledge.

The SCC is a joint initiative of the University of Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. It is being developed in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Education. Situated in the heritage-listed Aula der Wissenschaften, the center will serve as a dynamic venue for engaging with current scientific developments and key questions for the future.

Particular focus is placed on young audiences — especially school pupils aged ten and above, as well as young adults. The SCC does not see itself as a traditional museum, but as an intergenerational platform for science communication with significant societal relevance.
