Ihre Aufgaben

Als Leitung Ausstellung sind Sie verantwortlich für die inhaltliche, gestalterische und produktionelle Entwicklung unserer Ausstellungen – von der ersten Idee bis zur Eröffnung. Die Ausstellungen entstehen in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Wissenschaftssystem sowie internen und externen Kurator*innen, Expert*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen. Dabei koordinieren und steuern Sie interdisziplinäre Prozesse an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft, Gestaltung und Technik.

Ihre zentralen Aufgaben umfassen:

Entwicklung, Strukturierung und Leitung komplexer Ausstellungsprojekte – konzeptionell, kuratorisch und organisatorisch
Konzipieren und Umsetzen von Narrativen, Storytelling und dramaturgischen Leitlinien für analoge und hybride Ausstellungsformate
Enge Zusammenarbeit mit Wissenschaftler*innen, internen und externen Kurator*innen sowie weiteren Expert*innen
Führen und Koordinieren von multidisziplinären Teams (Inhalte, Szenografie, Gestaltung, Medien, Technik, Bau)
Steuerung und Vernetzung aller kreativen und technischen Schnittstellen im Ausstellungsprozess
Steuerung externer Partner*innen (Agenturen, Gestalter*innen, Produzent*innen, Dienstleister*innen)
Verantwortung für die Projektbudgetierung, das laufende Controlling sowie das Einhalten von Zeit- und Ressourcenplänen
Konzipieren, Ausschreiben und Abwickeln von Vergabeprojekten gemäß Bundesvergabegesetz
Enge Zusammenarbeit mit der Geschäftsführung, Kommunikation und Wissenschaftsvermittlung

Ihr Profil

Sie bringen ein tiefes Verständnis für kuratorische Prozesse, kreative Gestaltung und Produktionslogik mit – und können Teams ebenso wie Inhalte mit Klarheit und Leidenschaft führen.

Was Sie mitbringen sollten:

Abgeschlossenes Studium und fundierte Kenntnisse von wissenschaftlichen Prozessen
Mehrjährige Erfahrung in der Leitung von komplexen Ausstellungsprojekten – idealerweise mit Fokus auf Wissenschaft, Kultur oder Bildung
Nachweisbare Erfahrung in kuratorischer und dramaturgischer Entwicklung von Ausstellungen mit starkem Storytelling-Ansatz
Ausgeprägte Fähigkeit zur Steuerung kreativer Schnittstellenprozesse (Inhalt – Gestaltung – Technik)
Erfahrung in der Leitung und Motivation multidisziplinärer Teams
Sicherer Umgang mit Projektbudgetierung, Ressourcenplanung und Controlling
Fundierte Kenntnisse im öffentlichen Beschaffungswesen und in der Umsetzung von Vergabeverfahren (BVergG)
Organisationstalent, konzeptionelles Denken, Kommunikationsstärke und eine strukturierte, lösungsorientierte Arbeitsweise

Science Communication Center

Mit dem Science Communication Center (SCC) entsteht im Herzen Wiens das größte Zentrum für moderne Wissenschaftsvermittlung in Österreich. Ab 2027 lädt das SCC auf rund 4.000 m² zu interaktiven Ausstellungen, Mitmachlaboren, Veranstaltungen und Dialogräumen ein – ein Ort, an dem Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft auf Augenhöhe in Austausch treten.

Ziel ist es, Begeisterung für Forschung zu wecken, wissenschaftliches Denken erlebbar zu machen und Vertrauen in wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zu fördern.

Das SCC ist ein gemeinsames Projekt der Universität Wien, der Technischen Universität Wien und der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Es entsteht in enger Kooperation mit dem Bundesministerium für Frauen, Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie dem Bundesministerium für Bildung. Im denkmalgeschützten Gebäude der Aula der Wissenschaften entsteht so ein lebendiger Ort der Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Forschungsthemen und zentralen Zukunftsfragen.

Besonderes Augenmerk gilt jungen Zielgruppen – vor allem Schüler*innen ab zehn Jahren und jungen Erwachsenen. Dabei versteht sich das SCC nicht als klassisches Museum, sondern als generationenübergreifende Plattform für Wissenschaftskommunikation mit hoher gesellschaftlicher Relevanz.

Your mission

As Head of Exhibitions, you will be responsible for the content, design, and production development of our exhibitions – from the initial idea to the grand opening. The exhibitions are created in close collaboration with the scientific community as well as internal and external curators, experts, and scientists. In this role, you coordinate and manage interdisciplinary processes at the intersection of science, design, and technology.

Your core responsibilities include:

Developing, structuring, and managing complex exhibition projects – conceptually, curatorially, and organizationally
Designing and implementing narratives, storytelling, and dramaturgical frameworks for both analog and hybrid exhibition formats
Working closely with scientists, internal and external curators, and other subject matter experts
Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams (content, scenography, design, media, technology, construction)
Managing and integrating all creative and technical interfaces throughout the exhibition process
Overseeing external partners (agencies, designers, producers, service providers)
Responsibility for project budgeting, ongoing cost control, and adherence to timelines and resource plans
Planning, tendering, and executing procurement projects in accordance with the Austrian Federal Procurement Act
Collaborating closely with executive management, communications, and science outreach teams

Your profile

You bring a deep understanding of curatorial processes, creative design, and production logic – and are able to lead both teams and content with clarity and passion.

What you should bring:

A completed academic degree and solid understanding of scientific processes
Several years of experience leading complex exhibition projects – ideally with a focus on science, culture, or education
Proven experience in the curatorial and dramaturgical development of exhibitions with a strong storytelling approach
Strong ability to manage creative interface processes (content – design – technology)
Experience in leading and motivating multidisciplinary teams
Confident handling of project budgeting, resource planning, and cost control
In-depth knowledge of public procurement regulations and implementing tender processes (in line with the Austrian Federal Procurement Act – BVergG)
Strong organizational skills, conceptual thinking, excellent communication, and a structured, solution-oriented working style

About us

Science Communication Center

Located in the heart of Vienna, the Science Communication Center (SCC) will become Austria’s largest hub for modern science communication. Starting in 2027, the SCC will offer approximately 4,000 m² of interactive exhibitions, hands-on labs, events, and spaces for dialogue between science and society — a place where exchange happens on equal footing.

The goal is to spark enthusiasm for research, make scientific thinking tangible, and foster trust in scientific knowledge.

The SCC is a joint initiative of the University of Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. It is being developed in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Education. Situated in the heritage-listed Aula der Wissenschaften, the center will serve as a dynamic venue for engaging with current scientific developments and key questions for the future.

Particular focus is placed on young audiences — especially school pupils aged ten and above, as well as young adults. The SCC does not see itself as a traditional museum, but as an intergenerational platform for science communication with significant societal relevance.
